Here is my PC spec:
Abit BD7II
Abit BD7II
Pentium 4 1.6A at stock speed
MSI 32X CD-Writer
Mushkin 512 MB DDR 2100 RAM
WD 80GB HDD with 8Mb cache
Sound Blaster Live value
Windows 2000 Pro
Matrox G450
Pinnacle DV500

The CD-Writer has been acting up, sometimes it would not open the tray when the button was pushed. It would not play some store bought CDs.
I bought another CD-Writer (Lite On 40X12X48) to replace it. With the Lite On burner, Windows would boots but keyboard and mouse
would not work. Sometimes it would boot up only in the BIOS with press DEL key .. and stopped. I also tried it with another CD-ROM but
encountered the same problem. Only the MSI CD-Writer would work with this motherboard. Any suggestions for this problem would be greatly
appreciated. PC was built only in June 2002. Thank you in advance.

Possibly power related. Or, drive detection/driver loading problem. Try "removing" the drive from Device manager then rebooting to let it "re-detect" and install the drive. Also, check in the BIOS for what your IDE shows for the drive(s). Heck, this might not even be related to the CDROM; could be any mixture of things. What PS are you using? Have you tried lowering your RAM timings in the BIOS?

Thank you for the suggestions, I will try them out. I am using an Antec PLUS860 case with 330W power supply.
All memory settings were BIOS defaults.

It is really starting to sound like a Win2K driver issue. I'm not too "familiar" with that OS so would not be able to help much in that aspect. Trying the "reinstallation" that I mentioned earlier might help though. Other than that, I'm not sure. Hopefully the "normal AT rescue" will happen and someone more familiar will intercede.
