Ok, about a year and a half ago I got the aircard 510 deal (for those of you who weren't around, it was given out for free from sierra wireless.) At the time, I didn't have a laptop, so, for a while, I just stood there scratching my head, contemplating the possibilities.

A couple months ago I got a laptop, and I had completely forgotten about the aircard I had. Last night, however, I installed it: the install went smoothly, software went in fine, and the thing appeared to be working. However, whenever I try to dial up (to my own provider) nothing happens.

Now, my question is, do I need to get this thing activated with sprint, or can i just use it to dial up to my own servers and ISPs? Can someone walk me through fixing this?

Thanks!

you need to get everything activated w/ your cell phone company... watch out tho, those things are kinda expensive, kinda neat to mess around w/ for a while, but they don't work really well and aren't worth it unless you really really need the internet in a portable manner...

I got an Aircard from a Sprint PCS promo about a year ago. Wireless internet isn't fast, 19.2kbps. I didn't have to activate my package to use it. However, in your case, it's probably expired. At this point, you'll have to see if you can get it activated from Sprint.
