I get this thing going and load Windows 98SE no problem. Then load the drivers and utilities from the Abit motherboard CDRom fine. When I load SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 software I get a error that when rebooted stops windows loading and won't let me do anything. The green screen comes up before the log in and just stays blank and the pointer moves but nothing else. I tried reloading this a few times (before and after loading ATI A-I-W Radeon software) and get the same thing. Went into bios and deactivated audio '97. I also didn't load the audio drivers for the on-board audio and still it freezes up at the same point. What the hell is going on? Anybody know.... Thanks.

take out your card download new versions from creativelabs

email me if this works OK?

good luck

Tried a couple different PCI slots already and still the same thing.
I looked at CL website and the drivers looked to be the same and haven't been updated in quite some time. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong spot though?

This is killing me! I spent another 5 hours and still got the same result. I have 3 things installed in the slots on this Abit SA6R motherboard, the SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 card, the ATI A-I-W Radeon AGP, and a SMC 1211 series NIC card. Would a IRQ confict between the 5.1 and one of the other cards cause this problem? I can't even get to the point of installing the Radeon software, so that card I doubt is the problem.

The Highpoint on-board RAID controller takes up an IRQ also. Try loading the computer with everything except the Sound Blaster card. After everything is loaded up including the various drivers on the Abit mobo disk, then install the Live! card. Hope that works.

One time it froze up when the screen said it was installing SB16. I think that might be the problem. How do I go about disabling SB16.

right click my computer then properties and go to device manager click the + sign beside creative misc. devices, then click on SB16 Emulation and click properties then put a check mark in disable in this hardware profile and click ok and reboot.

Thanks, what does this do? First off, and second. If the computer won't boot up all the way through to windows, how would I go about doing this?

SB16 is used mainly for old DOS games and it frees up resources...... can you boot into safe mode

Someone please tell me how to get my computer to boot in Windows safe mode. I think you just have to hold a button, like delete when going into bios settings. I loaded this stuff again and all went well, I then installed the SB Live! 5.1 card and then when I load the software it happens again. The computer stops loading after the Network log in screen. Just has a blank green screen with the cursor that will move, no hard drive activity. So I can't go into properties and disable SB16 emulation. So I want to boot in safe mode...

Well it's not the SB16 emulation. Still get the same thing. If I remove the SB Live! 5.1 card the computer boots, so it only happens when this card is installed. What the hell?
