Here is the scenerio:
I have two buildings on my property. My home and an office. I have seperate networks setup and both buildings using Windows XP and just workgroups for each side.
I would like to connect these two networks to share a single broadband connection (500 up/ 500 down, it is ok with my ISP) I have Cat5 between the two locations. How do I go about interfacing the two and what hardeware is required? Thanks.

Option 1. One cohesive Network comprised of both locations.

Connect your modem to a Cable/DSL Router and configure the network that is at the Modem Site.

If you want one cohesive Network comprise of both location, plug the interconnection CAT5e into ones of the Router?s regular port.

Get a switch and put at the second location. Plug the CAT5e that comes in to the Switch's Uplink and plug all local computers to the Switch.

Such a Network would be managed by the main Router and there will be a capacity for File and printer sharing regardless of location.

Option 2. Two separated Networks.

Get a second Router and follow the instructions in the page bellow.

You can incorporate Wireless or do it with Wire only, the principle is the same as described in this page: http://www.ezlan.net/shield.html
