Please Help - Win98 Bootup Problem

Went away for the weekend. Son started to download ICQ. Ran out of disk space during install. "Deleted ICQ" and God knows what else.

Now, when I boot up, Win98 gets most of the way through the process, but reports an error:

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE is not a valid Win32 application.

Then same error for FINDFAST.EXE, FASTBOOT.EXE, etc. After that, it won't run most programs e.g. MS Office, system tools, AOL, etc. It will run games though. Also, Word will run if I open an existing document.

Same errors occur in Safe Mode.

Tried to boot from floppy but same problem. Tried to reinstall Win98 but can't get past the welcome screen.

Are there system files that I should delete, replace, edit?

Thanks for your help. LC

Run the REPAIR on your Office install.

Just put the CD in and tell it to do a repair.
Findfast (a resource hog) and FastBoot (a do nothing app) are part of Office

You can also try removing both files from the startup directory before repairing.

None of the System Tools run - "Not a valid Win32 application"

I also tried using older versions of system.ini, win.ini, system.dat and user.dat from the sysbckup folder, but problem persists.

I'll try the Office Repair suggestion.

Thanks, LC
