today my system started doing very strage things...At start up its fine but when i open windows explorer or internet explorer or some other app... the mouse pointer turns into a hour glass every 6 seconds...keeps doing it even when i close everything down...if i play a game "counter strike" i get the hour glass in my cross hairs...WONT GO AWAY...
I tried reformating, new ram , removed nic cards...no help.... ANY IDEAS...thanks

Make sure that you don't have a blank CD sitting in your CDRW. Strange as it sounds, Win98 shows the symptoms you describe when that is the case.
