Please help us. We are the Webmasters at our school and we are trying to convert from our old website to our new website and the new website uses flash.

I am trying to add javascript to the new page which has flash, but it will not work when it is with the flash. Is there something wrong with my code? I have put the hyperlinks to our schools website below. The old and the new. Please help so we can get this fixed.

Thank you for your time.

We are trying to use a Javascript program for our picture pages.

This is not working when we copy the code and place it into the new website.

Us webmasters dont know Javascript very well, so we need all the help we can get so we can put the new design out on the internet for our School District.

Thanks for your replies! :)

NIce Java slide show in the first website. I assume you also want it to show in your new site?

The way your new site is behaving suggests to me that your code can't find your picture directory. Make sure that the pictures are present in the new site's picture directory and all files/folders match whats specified in the code.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have went through the code and checked that the directories for the images were correct.

I copied the code from the new site and posted it into a new page without the flash in the new set up and the directories were working good. The Javascript was working when it was on its on.

The conclusion that we came to was that the Flash and Javascript are not functioning while together.

If I put the code in the wrong spot or if something is incorrect with the code in the new page, please let me know.

Thanks! :)

Your code looks correct, but in some cases, all it takes is a typo in either the code or the way you've named your directories. It also takes a keen eye to find it sometimes ....

If I read your reply above correctly, you're saying the java slide show displays properly when the flash is removed from the page? If thats not been tried, cut the code for your flash objects out and see if your slide show comes back.

If it does, try programming the page so the flash code loads AFTER the slide show. Its been a while since I've done it .... but I've run both Java and Flash on the same page.
However, if I recall correctly, it took some tinkering to get both codes to run at the same time.

By the way, I'm only a novice when it comes to writing an html page. Others on here are far better than I.

I have cut the flash code out of the page and once this is done, the javascript runs properly.

If anyone can please look at the code and tell me how to have the javascript fun first or figure out why the flash and javascript are conflicting..

If you can figure out how to edit the html to have the java run first, please let us know. We use frontpage to edit most of our website. We had one of our webmasters design the flash, but none of us know javascript very well.

We have tried everything that we know to ensure that all directories are correct and the code is in the correct place, however we dont know what we are doing wrong or what is not working properly.

Thanks again for any help! We really appreciate it... ;)

It's working just fine for me. =/

I suggest not using flash for the header/nav, though. It's simpler to just use rollovers. Also, they load faster and are much easier to modify.

How do we do this? I've never heard of rollovers. Our website is ran by Students, so we know basic HTML. We dont really know a lot about Javascript and Flash.

Please expand more on this. When I try to load the page, it doesn't work for me.. I honestly dont know why it works for you guys, but not me...

Suggestions are really appreciated! :)

Do you happen to have the code or a link to where we can get the code to do this? We also have to do a picture page for our High School.

Thanks for your input! :)

nlswebmasters,

I'm not trying to be mean.....

But you really should consider if the page you are trying to fix is the best way to present your photos. I'm talking about your "old" page.

I have a 6Mbps cable modem connection and, personally, I'd NEVER wait, staring at a blank screen, for as long as it takes for those pictures to download. What about half of your users, who have dialup modem connections? They are going to hit the "Back" button long before that javascript presentation finishes its download.

I completely agree and I dont take that offensively..

We know that this is an issue and we would like help from anyone out there that can speed this process up. The Java applet does take a long time to load, but this is the only way that we know how to have the picture page.

If you have another way of doing this, please let us know.

Thanks!

The new page loads for me in Firefox but not in IE, if that helps you out any.

This is exactly what we are looking for... How can we do this with our picture page? Would you be able to send us an example text file or something similiar to that?

We are 95% ready with the rest of the new website and are hoping to go live soon, so your quick response is definately appreciated! :)

Thank you to all of you that helped us out! :)
