Please help trying to fix 6600gt - bios maybe?

I have been using an evga 6600gt and I just recently purchased a bfg 6800gt. During the new install I had problems. Techs at bfg told me to update bios, and when I did 6600gt went haywire - now all I get is weird graphics and an unchangeable screen resolution (tried but keeps resetting to an extremely low res and bit color). 6800gt has been sent back (rma) and I am stuck with the original ati x300se that came with my computer. Would anyone know if my 6600gt is beyond repair? This all started with the bios update and I have heard about flashing the bios on a video card but this is beyond me. Would greatly appreciate any feedback.

PS Tried installing nividia drivers to see if it would help but setup quit right in the middle of install - gave me a warning message (too quick to fully comprehend - something about bios and hardware damage) and rebooted automatically.

Did you try to update the 6600gt bios with the 6800gt bios by accident?

Please give out just a little bit more info on the sequence of events, who told you to do what, and what you did.

The onlything I did was update the mobo bios via the dell website, and that was done with a tech from dell on the phone. I did that while the 6600gt was in place. The 6800gt was totally non functional - could not get in windows at all. If you are referring to flashing the 6600 with a 6800 bios - I would not even begin to know how to do that.

thanks

I do not think that flashing the bios of the video card is going to solve the problem.

On the BFG site, it says that if you a black screen there could be a conflict with integrated graphics.
If a video card is trying to set to 640x480 with 16 colors it could have a driver conflict.
The original card that came with the computer still works.

I think you have a driver conflict with the ATI card drivers and the 6600 ones, OR
the bios upgrade changed one of the bios parameters (an IFQ or AGP setting) so that the 6600 no longer works.

Look in you card manual on bios setting.
