Planning a new system build in Feb 2008. waiting for Jan 20th 2008... I guess u ppl know why :D

My specs are:

ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi or Gigabyte GA-X38T-DQ6
Core2Extreme QX9650 (Q9450 if it is made available, Intel has delayed it yet again)
XFX 8800GT 512Mb
2Gb DDR3 1333 - Corsair (mainstream) (1GB*2)
500 Gb Seagate 7200.11 Sata 3GB/s
Lite-On Sata DVD-RW with light scribe

I would be adding another 8800GT to make it SLI by September 2008... So need a good power supply unit for these specifications

Antec, Coolermaster or Gigabyte is preferred as it is available in India readily.

What about Tagan? is it a good PSU?

No, why are you waiting for jan 20? For those 45nm qaudcore penryn's that have been postponed for another 2 months, till end of februari or even march? Your best bet is to give us the website you can order from so we can pick one. Oh, and a small piece of advice, loose the ddr3, and get a 8800gts 512mb instead. Your mobo can't do SLI, so if you want dual vidcards, you'll have to buy a HD3870 instead.

Tagan are sketchy qaulity. Your best bet is a Antec Earthwatts 500w. Some coolermasters are pretty good too. And no P35 and X38 don't suppost SLI, Crossfire only. If you want SLI, you'll need a 780i mobo from Nvidia.

I agree on the no DDR3 advice, assuming prices are at all similar you can easily get 4GB of DDR2 for the same price or cheaper than 2 GB of DDR3. Even with a 32bit OS 3.2 is better than 2.

As for the vid card stick with the 8800GT, the GTS 512 is awesome but unless the prices are great you are going to pay $100 more per card and it's not worth it if you want to go SLI (for the record I have a 8800GTS 512).

I'm not sure on the PSU, of all the brands you listed the Antecs would be the best and I know the earthwatts 500 is a great psu but can it handle a 45nm Quad + SLI? One guy here said his overclocked Q6600 (at 3.2) with 8800GT sli, 8gb ram, and 4 HDD pull ~500 watts from the wall at full power which the Earthwatts 500 would not be able to handle if true. Now he has more optical drives and ram but how does the power draw of the 45nm quad compare to a Q6600 @ 3.2?

Personally I would get one of the more powerful models of Antec PSU's, something in the 600-700 range but that is based on opinion, not fact. Maybe others who know more can answer with more detail.

hope that helped!

Ah of course, I somehow forget the SLI thingy :p Yeah, when SLI-ing or CF-ing, you'll want a good 600w PSU, with 40a on the 12v rails. For the record, power draw from the 45nm is about 95% or so of the 65nm cpu's. Not a huge difference. I just noticed this PSU at newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817171024 and it seems to be a very solid PSU. I know you can't order from newegg, but the 750w real power pro is a recommendation. The 650w version should also be able to handle dual 8800gt's and a qaudcore. Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 could do the trick too, but it kind of depends on how much you can spend.

With the markup on all 8800 GT (256 & 512MB variants) I only paid 30 dollars more for my GTS on the G92 core..
