Please help - strange XP USB problem...

I've got a really wierd thing happening with USB in XP...

I have an Intellimouse Optical and a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick plugged into the two USB ports on the back of my system. When both are plugged in - about every 30 seconds, I get the Windows device connect and disconnect sounds, the light goes off on my mouse, and the pointer locks up for a split second. It's extremely annoying and it only happens when I have another USB device besides the mouse plugged in. It's like Windows thinks I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back in really fast...

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Ryan

Specs:
Athlon 1.4
SOYO Dragon Mobo w/latest BIOS
512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
Gainward GeForce 3
RAID is disabled, HD and DVD are on the VIA IDE controller
Windows XP Professional
latest drivers for all hardware and latest VIA 4 in 1's

XP Pro build 2600 final. It stops completely when I unplug my joystick.

Thinkin about going to PS/2 on the mouse until SOYO/VIA/MS figures this out...

Do you only have the 2 usb ports, do you not have the USB2 on a bracket thing that comes with most Socket A boards, otherwise you could try that.

If no, then going to PS/2 sounds like your best bet for now.

I think i'm gonna disable the onboard USB altogether and get a little PCI card to run the joystick and mouse... DIE VIA!!
