Please help...ready to toss the PC!!!

Absolutely everything I do, ie. keyboard, mouse, every single command on or offline, in every single program is delayed by a half a minute or so. This is so frustrating and a brand new problem to me.... if you are familiar with this occurance, please help, this is driving me crazy!

Two questions:

What OS are you using?

Are those delays accompanied by a lot of hard drive noise?

Hi HitokiriSoujiro, thanks for responding so quickly.
My os is winMe and yes, there is a lot of noise coming from the hard drive but that's been going on for awhile now, it sounds like it's always working triple over time just to open basic programs, never mind help files or even word...
generally this is happening all the time, with or without the grinding and sputtering....

Hmmm... your problem initially sounded like one my sister had... one she rectified with Disk Defragmenter. I don't suppose it's been a while since your last defrag, by any chance? (Heaven forbid it be *that* easy tho.)

I've not seen the problem as extreme as you are describing but WinME is very inefficient and what you are describing is my experience as well. Do yourself a favor and back down to Win98SE.
