I'm still having major problems with computer locking up 1 or 2 mins into W2K.

I've recently installed a 1.2Ghz 266FSB on my KT7A Mobo. The system works fine at 900 - 9x 100/33 but when I push it to 1200 9x 133/33 it'll lock up......

I've done a reinstall from bare bones, at 900 no problems at 1200 it wont even install W2K.

Avg. running temp at 1200 when it locks is 52oC, avg. running temp at 900 is 40oC.

Installed SP2 for W2K, obviouslly not any better. Tried changing the RAM timings in SoftMenuIII to Turbo still nothing, changed the AGP port timing to EA, disabled 4X AGP and you've guessed it....nothing, still locks up.

"Avg. running temp at 1200 when it locks is 52oC, avg. running temp at 900 is 40oC"

Here is the culprit, mate, try to get a better heatsink fan(I'm not sure how your Titan Majesty cooler performs though) since you're into overclocking. :)

Thanks, i've got some Arctic Silver II on order, due to arrive tomorrow. As you say it might be that, I had the HSF on an older chip and didn't clean the surface before putting it on this new one. Oh and i'm not trying to overclock the chip, it's supposed to run at 1200 9x 133/33 :D

52C is somewhat on the high side so I suggest you do some measures to cool your chip. I'm not sure if using the HSF of an older chip is alright since it might not exactly "fit" or have good contact with your processor core. Also, what's your mobo btw?

Hmmmm just checked the spec. of my HSF, its rated for upto 1.5Ghz Athlons.. should be man enough for the job, but I suspect i'm not getting a good enough conection between it and the chip. My mobo is an ABIT KT7A.

Right, check the clip, make sure it locks firmly in place. Also, try updating to the latest BIOS of your Abit mobo.

Ok. Just checked HSF, connected tight to chip. Just been playin with the chip speeds. Highest it'll go without locking up is 1100Mhz - 100x11, any higher and wham!! BIOS is also as up to date as the ABIT site.
