Please Help: Proxy and Windows XP = insane

Here at work (a high school) we're just starting to get PC's with Windows XP Professional on them.

Internet access is through a proxy.

Now, in the past (with 9x), we just set the Proxy information in IE 6 and it didn't matter which users logged in.

Now, with Windows XP, when I setup one user all is good.

But once the Logoff and the next user gets on, the proxy info in IE needs to be re-entered.

This obviously is very bad since the students here log in with their own passwords on the PC's = no way can I go around and setup each person's proxy settings each time on each computer they get on.

Is there not some way so when they log on it sets the IE proxy info on the computer they are logging onto?

Or...

Since I'm going to end up Ghosting all these Windows XP machines with one image anyway, a way for me to set on the computer to always use only these proxy settings, no matter who logs on?

A MASSIVE THANKS for anyone who can shed some light on this.

Use the MMC, that's what it's there for.....🙂

Gpedit.msc, User Configuration, Internet Explorer Maintenance, Connection... If you have an auto configuration script you can enter it in the Automatic Browser Configuration area. If you have to manually set the proxy, set it in the Proxy Settings area. Then, go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Internet Explorer. In the right pane look for the entry for "Make proxy settings per machine (rather than per user)" double click it and enable. All taken care of. If you do this on the machine you are making the image on it will be on any machine you ghost and no more having to set it with each login. If it's not clear enough just let me know and I'll do what I can.....HTH

speed01- YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!

That worked perfectly, just like you said.

Do you know if there is a similiar way to make the desktop and power property settings be the same now matter what user logs on?

Thanks a HUGE bunch again!
