Please Help! Problem with new build

Ok I'm at a loss. I'm in the process of my first build and am in the middle of
testing it outside of the case limiting the pieces to:
Motherboard (k8N neo2plat)
Power supply (Forton 500W)
AMD64 3200 processor +stock heatsink
agp card
ram
I connected the moniter to the graphic card and then used a screwdriver to short the power switch connecter on the motherboard. The CPU fan works but that or the motherboard seems to start screaming(very loud and piercing) as soon as it powers up. Nothing on the moniter shows up. The noise is not coming from the power supply. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong so far and what the problem is?

Btw I have checked the RAM and AGP cards repeatedly to make sure they are firmly set.

Exactly what video card are you using? If it requires a molex connector do you have it plugged in? Verified that the heatsink is mounted properly? I would double check all of your connections, re-seat the ram and video card, make sure nothing that isn't needed is connected(all you need to post is 1 stick of ram, cpu/heatsink fan, and video card)

Also make sure that your board is on a non conductive surface ie. cardboard box, wood table ect. If it isn't, you may be shorting across the back of the board.
