PLEASE HELP Printing Issues In XP

Hi all, I just installed a printer and it will not print, Its a HP Deskjet 460. I can print from its tool box software but not from windows or other applications. I have removed all software and drivers, stopped and restarted the spooler service, and still will not print. As soon as I press print test page from printer properties it says " Test page failed to print. Would you like to print troublershooter for assistance? Operation could not be completed."

I went throguh the troubler shooter and it came up with nothing. Any Ideas? Another thing is that the print job never get sent to the print queue. Please help!!

Just a shot in the dark, but is the new printer set as the default one and not an older printer you had before?

Control Panel > Printers.

See what printers you have there and right click on your new one > Set as Default. Perhaps XP is still pointed to an older printer you had before or something else.

Check HP to see if you need an updated driver or firmware. Here's the page for the HP Deskjet 460c. It lists drivers, utilities and firmware dated from 05-2006 to 09-2006.

When I searched the site for Deskjet 460, I first foundthis page. It lists these models:

HP Deskjet 460 Mobile Printer series

HP Deskjet 460c Mobile Printer
HP Deskjet 460cb Mobile Printer
HP Deskjet 460wbt Mobile Printer
HP Deskjet 460wf Mobile Printer

The drivers and firmware may all be the same, but it would be best if you followed the link for your particular model, just to be sure.

Perhaps try another USB cable? Do you get a messege when plugging the printer in while already booted?

Did you try the updated drivers? My HP Laserjet 100A needed an updated driver and some other massaging to work under XP, and I've had several friends who needed the same kinds of updates with their HP printers and scanners.

I searched HP's support pages for the model, HP Deskjet 460c and the key phrase, "Test page failed to print." This page may help.

Issue

If the printer does not complete a print job before other jobs are sent, print jobs can build up in the print queue, causing it to become backed up.
