Please help pick a PSU from the list

I really wanted a Seasonic, but they aren't carried at this place, and it would be much easier to pick one that they do stock. My first priority is low noise...followed closely by reliability and price. The system will max out at 400W.

Which of the following would you recommend?

Thanks!

Why? So you can say...
* That one's too expensive.
* I don't like the fans on that one.
* Is that the quietest on the list.
* That one doesn't look cool enough.
* Do I really need that much wattage.
* I don't like that one, it doesn't have modular cables.
* I don't like that one, it has modular cables.
* I read somewhere those are bad PS.
Etc... Etc... Etc...

I have requested price and availability on the Solo (it's a local, inexpensive supplier, and easier if they bring it in). I'm not a fan of the white 150 case...

So that leaves me needing a PSU. I'm thinking Seasonic S-12 500?

The supplier doesn't carry Seasonic either....just Antec, Enermax, Silverstone, Mushkin, OCZ and a few others.

Thoughts on a PSU if I go Solo? Is it worth chasing down the seasonic from another supplier if need be? The Enermax 485W EG495P-VE SFMA Noisetaker looks like a contender.....?

I swear by Seasonic. By the way, the rig you outlined will draw about 300W at absolute maximum.

Thanks for the wattage info! I'm a bit of a rookie, and that helps a ton.

The Sonata is still in the running, based on cost alone. If the PSU doesn't cut it in a few months, then I'm no further behind, as I only have about $100CAD sunk in to the case & PSU together.

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW 1000W Power Supply w/ EPS 12V

yeah... get that one 😛

Seriously anything from OCZ, PCP&C, Seasonic, and Fortron are supurb.

If you do go with the 1kw from PC Power and Cooling (if it will fit in your case)
it will likely be the last power pack you ever buy (unless it fails) .. it can easily
handle all your present needs & any future needs ... and a higher wattage unit
will run cooler

For quiet power...Silverstone ST50EF 500W Element.

For modular, fairly quiet and VG built quality...Enermax Liberty, 400~500W.

The PC P&C, the Enermax Liberty, and the Silverstone Zeus are the best PSUs on that list. But they are all probably overkill for your PC. The 400W Liberty should work well.

Umm, no. Because these PSUs aren't talked about much at places like SilentPCReview, and the other reviews I've read don't put a lot of emphasis on low-noise.

I did...and everything I read praises the Seasonics for the criteria I am after, but as you can see, they are unavailable from my preferred local supplier.

So long story short, this is my first build, and I turned to anandtech forums for the one component choice that was stumping me.

But thanks for your well thought out, constructive help.

Thanks for illustrating my point Blain. I can't find anything good to say about the included PSU on the Sonata II (usually reliability issues), so I am looking elsewhere for a separate case and PSU...and as you can see by your dilligent research above, I still haven't solved the PSU issue. (the recommended P150 is also unavailable).

Hence this thread...

I use an OCZ modsteam 450w - Modualr cables great for an uncramped system
120mm cooling and very quiet.. Check my sig.. She runs it all even overvolting the ram..

All depends on your current/future needs/plans

My lastest research has landed me on the OCZ powerstream 600w
with Adjustable Rails! Perfect for my O/C needs and I read that
the modular cabling systems are not as good as hardwired..

I have heard the Muskin is good too..

The Seasonic built Corsair units are very good.
The Topower built Mushkin units are crap.

Yes the Mushkin supplies are crap, with out a doubt. And all Corsair units are Seasonic...
