I am running win98se at work. I installed Palm Desktop 4.0
My PC has an ethernet card, and an internal 33.6 USR modem.

when i tap on hotsync it says something like "loopback detected. you tap hotsync while attached to a modem. to perform a modem sync tap modem sync"

i dont want to sync by modem. i want to sync by serial.

com1=mouse. com=2 modem. when i select com port for syncing i choose
com2.

my impression is there is some com port conflict. is this correct?

if the problem IS the modem..is there a way to disable the modem without ripping it out of the PC?

thanks

I would hit "CTL-ALT-DELETE" and see whats running when you do that. I had probs in the same area and had to shutdown some little pgm that dealt with my camera (which used the same com port. Now I have nothing loaded, the camera or the Palm Sync. I just envoke the Sync when I need it. Seems to work OK.
