Hello,

I'm trying to get an idea of how customers view the optical marketplace, as opposed to just assuming I know how they view it.

If you don't mind, could you take a minute and answer a few questions. I'll leave off my profession right now just to not confuse the answering. thanks.

1) how often do you get eye care?
2) do you wear contacts?
3) what is your vision insurance?
4) do you equate designer frames with quality?
5) what do you normally pay for a frame?
6) do you get an exam and a pair of glasses at different places?
7) do you feel there is a conflict of interest for ophthalmologists and optometrists to sell glasses?
8) would you consider getting an eye exam from a doctor who came to your work, or visited your home for the exam?
9) would you ever buy glasses online, without trying them on?
10) what is the determining factor in choosing an eye care provider? price, convenience, recommendation, who is on my plan, etc.
11) how long do you expect to wait to get your glasses made?
12) is the amount of time you wait a sign of the suspected quality of the materials?
13) how long should a frame last?
14) do you base your buying decision on the recommendation of the people selling them?
15) would you go with an unknown brand that the optical said was higher quality?
16) do you trust your eye care provider?
17) do you want an eye doctor to do the exam, or is it ok if techs do most of the work?

whew....

OK, which of these choices would you pick for the following questions...
a. optician
b. ophthalmologist
c. optometrist
d. er
e. urgent care center
f. walmart, pearle, lenscrafters
g. general physician

1) who would you visit for a red eye?
2) who would you visit if you had an eye injury?
3) who would you visit to buy glasses?
4) who would you visit to be fit for contacts?
5) who would you visit if you were considering lasik surgery?
6) who would you visit for bad eye allergies?

thank you very much if you made it this far. I really appreciate any that care to reply. You can copy this and email it to orangezeroalpha at gmail if you would prefer to remain private. I'll take short essays as well Smile I just sometimes feel out of touch and like to hear what patients/consumers have to say and not take them for granted.

thanks again,

Nosy aintcha? ;)

) how often do you get eye care?
No more than every 2 years, but usually every 12 months.
2) do you wear contacts?
No
3) what is your vision insurance?
Decline to answer
4) do you equate designer frames with quality?
No
5) what do you normally pay for a frame?
$100-$200
6) do you get an exam and a pair of glasses at different places?
Sometimes. Not usually however
7) do you feel there is a conflict of interest for ophthalmologists and optometrists to sell glasses?
No.
8) would you consider getting an eye exam from a doctor who came to your work, or visited your home for the exam?
Yes.
9) would you ever buy glasses online, without trying them on?
No, unless it was to replace an exact frame I already have, and can spec the sizes. not comfortable about buying lenses on-line however. Mistakes DO happen, and it's a PITA to deal with the shipping.
10) what is the determining factor in choosing an eye care provider? price, convenience, recommendation, who is on my plan, etc.
11) how long do you expect to wait to get your glasses made?
7-10 days is normal.
12) is the amount of time you wait a sign of the suspected quality of the materials?
No.
13) how long should a frame last?
At least a couple of years.
14) do you base your buying decision on the recommendation of the people selling them?
Not usually, but it they warn me a produce is not good quality, THAT will influence my decision.
15) would you go with an unknown brand that the optical said was higher quality?
Yes, if the style was to my liking, and the quality seems to be good. My optometrist guarantees glasses she sells for 12 months.
16) do you trust your eye care provider?
Yes.
17) do you want an eye doctor to do the exam, or is it ok if techs do most of the work?
As long as the doctor does the actual exam, the techs can do the glaucoma and astigmatism tests.
