Hey guys, I am new here and this is my first post. Anyways, I am thinking of upgrading my video card, but I don't know which one to get. I am hoping to get some advices and suggestions from you.

Well, I have a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo, amd 2800+, 512 pc3500 ddr... and my current video card is a Leadtec geforce4 ti4400.

I was going to go all out and get a x800, but then if I get that, I will have to upgrade my power supply and my system probably can not keep up with the new card.

So I was thinking to get a 9800 pro. I am looking at the Sapphire RADEON 9800 PRO with 128MB and 256-bit memory interface.

I do plan on playing HL2 and Doom3... Will the 9800 PRO be good enough for those games? With my system specs, which card will be the best for me? Thank you for your help guys!

well we don't know truly how those games will run on your system, since the games not out...but from a benchmarks point of view, it should push HL2 fairly well, I don't think you'll be able to go all out with AA and AF at high details but it'll run pretty well.

Faced the same question myself, as you can see from my sig our rigs are similar. Although it was more of budget concern that made me choose the 9800 pro. $400 and up cards are just too much for me.

My thinking was that being how powerful the 9800 pro, with 8 pipes and all, it should push out some really nice graphics on Doom ]I[ even if I can't run every setting at highest. I seem to remember a benchie that showed the 9800 pro and XT (as well as nVidia cards) running only at medium to get good frame rates. But still that's gotta be a sweet looking medium.

My previous card was Ti also, by moving to the 9800 pro you'll get to see the DX9 features (as opposed to the Ti's only DX 8.0), better textures and shading. I think you'll like it. BTW mine OC's easily to XT speeds (core and ram). When D3 comes I'll push it & see what it can really do (that and my cpu).

I agree that you probably don't need an X800, but I doubt you would need a new PS for it unless you have less than 350W. The X800's are using about the same power as the 9800's.

You could also consider an FX5900XT for about $170. They generally overclock well.

Ti4400 is a decent card. You might hold off until D3 and HL2 come out and they are reviewed for performance against various cards. However, you can be sure that the X800 will run D3 and HL2 fairly well. Let us know how you go.
