Ok. Heres the deal. I have 2 computers networked together with a 5 port hub. Now, whichever machine I start first can see the network (the other machine and itself) but it can't browse the other machine only itself. It all depends which one I startup first. I have all the network protocols the same and can't see any difference! Its really starting to irritate me though! Anyone have any pointers??
thanks!

The only network protocol you need is tcp/ip. It sounds like you don't have any IP addresses assigned for the computers on your network which is why you are experiencing the sporadic communication.

Interesting problem. I recall it being discussed on the (now defunct) homepclan forum some months ago. No resolution of the problem was reported, as I recall.

Oh great....1 week ago I formatted both machines and did a clean install of win98se and they were working like a charm. Then my son had been downloading things off the net and all of a sudden ..poof! Stopped working !
I tried going back and unstalling things that he'd put on, but no luck.
I even let win98 check and replace any corrupt files. I'll keep plugging away at it...or as a guy once told me.."keep Futzing" with it!! Thanks!

I don't know what ISP you are using,, but if it is @Home and you have a cisco or a motorola cable modem, then @home needs to flag your modem for multiple IP's. In this case, you will need to call technical support for that and they should be able to do it for you quickly.
