I bought a new motherboard ASUS K8N-VM GF6100 754 and a AMD 64 3000.

The system starts then shuts off after about 5 seconds. It will POST and emit a beep but then will shut down. If I pull out the ram, it will stay on, but give off a series of beeps.

It's not the power supply, because I'm using it on the computer I'm on now. I've tried reseating the CPU, HSF, all with no luck.

Anyone know what's the deal?

First thing I would check is that the cpu fan is spinning and connected to the proper mb header. Most mbs shut down in a few seconds if they do not receive an rpm signal fron the cpu fan.

Are you trying to boot into an existing Windows installation?

Yes, I was testing a new motherboard/cpu running it off my hard drive. :)

The CPU fan spins, blows air, etc.. HD/CD drive. It just shuts off right after POSTing.
