I got a new MotherBoard (ECS K7S5A) and AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and am trying to install in a new case. First when I assembled in the case with a video card, but there is no display. The CPU Fan starts and the drives get power, but no Beep also.

Then I tried without the card, still no beep codes. I believe the MB is shorting out, I don't know how to find out. I am using all the required spaces or stand offs that came with the case and those that align with the holes in the MB. Then I removed MB from the case and I get the 3 beeps, may be no video. If I align the MB with the case, no beeps. If I leave it a little misaligned, i.e., the side with the connects a little away from the edge, it gives the beeps. I tried with different amounts of spaces, no luck. Now even with the MB away from the case, no beeps. Did I fry the MB? Please help.

The Power LED connecter for the case is a two-wire, but three hole connecter (middle one not used). But the MB uses a two pin for receiving it. How can I fix that.

That for help.

I had the same exact problem with an ECS K7S5A. I tried two different CPUs, two sticks of RAM, two video cards (1 agp and 1 pci), and it still did not work. It turns out the board was dead. I ended up RMAing the board because there was no way to make it work.

What kind of CPU are you using? What kind/size PSU are you using?

yeah if you are absolutely positive that the standoffs are only touching the holes in the mobo, then I would def agree with Minendo

CPU is Athlon XP 1800+ (bought it from Outpost.com) and PS is 300W, came with a case I bought from novapcs.com.

I will try one more time with plastic standoffs (instead of brass), also removing and reseating the CPU, clearing CMOS, etc. It does not help then I will send it back.

Thanks for the help.

Reply to DaiShan. I made sure that the brass posts are not touching anywhere else on the MB. I tried without attaching it to the case and without video cards and drives to see if I can get atleast the POST beeps. I got three beeps, which I assume is for not finding video card. Then I put it back in the case, no beeps. For a while, I was getting the three beeps, when I leave the MB a little misaligned with the case, ie., the MB a farther from the case where the connectors are. After many tries, the MB no longer gives the beeps, even when it is not connected to the MB.

I will try some more and then if it does not help and I will return the MB. Thanks for the help.

you might want to try to build the computer without the case. it has worked for me in the past. build it on a wood table or something... just not plastic... (sataic loves plastic)

I have the exact opposite problem. My Power LED connector on the case is 2-pin, but the MB (Asus A7V333) requires the 3-hole (middle not used) connector. [Unless, of course, there is a typo in the MB manual, and it's repeated in three other places. (Unlikely.)]

Yes do as Paintballjunkie said...pull the board and place it on a wood surface and then slap everything in it and fire it up...the power cords from the PSU should be able to reach or just remove it from the case and lay it next to the stuff!

I assembled it off the case and still only the fan runs, no POST beeps. I requested a replacement and I received that today. I tried the new motherboard also, but the same problem -- CPU fan runs, but no POST beeps or any other response.

I had received the POST beeps (3 beeps) a few times with the original MB and then it stopped in later tries. Did the MB fry the processor? I tried with another power supply also, but no help.

The replacement MB I received is a later model. The manual in the original MB mentioned only processors to 1.4MHz, but the new one says it supports all Duron and Athlon CPUs.

Is there anything else I can do other than now replacing the processor ? Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced the MB (K7S5A) still no Post beeps and no display on the monitor (monitor is fine). I even tried with another PSU. Is it possible that the CPU is fried. I tried replacing Video card, RAM, etc.

If the CPU is bad, will the BIOS will show any display at all ?
