This is my current PC.

if you checked the site, you'd know I'm missing a PCI-E X16 V_V

I would like to play next gen games on my PC, and get a card that supports DX10 but I'm stuck on PCI. The best PCI card right now is the X1300, but its nothing compared to the newer cards from ATI and nVidia.

I would like to get a new motherboard, but I'm a newb at changing hardware. I have added RAM, removed RAM, removed Tv Tuner cards, but thats about it. I'm not really sure i'd be able to change a motherboard. Do you guys have any links that show how to exchange a motherboard step-by-step? Is it really that complicated to change the motherboard?

Also what would be a good motherboard? Which motherboard will be compatabile with my PC, so I don't have to buy a new processor, RAM, etc.? My budget is $100-$150, and I'm looking for a mobo with a PCI-E X16 slot.

Thanks for the help
I hope I'm not asking for too much

Please Help! Need Suggestions is a crappy thread title, change it to something about the problem itself.

Now, changing out a mobo can be nothing or it can be a real pain in the kiester if you have a proprietary or otherwise crappy case, I have no idea about yours because I've never worked on one. Regardless, unplug all the cords, lay it on its side, and start taking stuff out. Not all willy-nilly, but it's really not that complicated. Take out the PCI cards, unplug your optical drive and power cords and all that, everything attached to the mobo, then unscrew the seven or so screws holding the board to the case. You don't, by any means, need to take out the memory or CPU before you take the mobo out of the case.

Also, buy from Tigerdirect or Newegg or something, check the RTPE here at Anandtech; there is no way that a PC like that should ever be worth a thousand bucks, unless that's canadian dollars, and even then that's a real stretch. I can't really advise you on specific hardware to buy because I'm not into games, but I can tell ya that Core 2 > X2 > A64 > PD > P4 w/HT >P4 (granted, the A64 > PD isn't a good comparision because one is single core and one is dual, so not everyone will agree with me there).

Well, you'll need a Micro ATX motherboard, Socket LGA775, probably with an Intel chipset so you won't need to reinstall Windows. After a quick search on Newegg, here's one.

The layout of the ports on the back of the board probably won't match the port cutouts on your HP's case, so you may need to modify it to fit (in which case you'll need one of these: Text)
