Hello everyone,

I have a Volcano 7+ on my system but the whine of it's fan is driving me crazy can I just replace the fan with a quiter one? or should I buy a new cpu cooler alltogether. Heres the think it is doing a good job of cooling my cpu with my OC but just too loud. My concern is if the fan is quiet will I get the same CFM?
Any help provided would be greatly appeciated

You can replace the fan with a quieter one. Take a look at Thermaltakes website and estimate how much airflow you will need to get the temperatures you want. The fan flows a max of 49 cfm, so if you need something that powerful, it is going to be loud, and look into a new HS. If however you have it turned down, you can prob find a quieter fan w/ the same cfm.

Hey Brian,

Well to be honest I'm not sure how much I really need I am severly OCed. My temps range from 35-36c unloaded and around 40-41c loaded I'd like to stay theree if I can with less noise. I'll look inot the fan idea though it may make more sense just to buy a new cpu cooler system. Who is a suggested fan manufacture?

Thanks,
ES

Your temps right now are fine and it wouldnt hurt if they went up a little. Is the fan turned up all the way? This adjustable fan should provide a comparable max cfm (49 cfm) at 10dB less(which is very significant, but by no means quiet). If you want "real" quiet, look into a new cpu cooler. If you have the money, it is probably a good idea. As for good fans, Panaflos are considered some of the best for quiet performance. The H1A provides 39cfm at 32dB and is only like $3 now (check the hot deals forum). Check out Gizzo's Fan Database for info on specific fans.

Good, except for the fact that V7+ uses a 70mm fan. Also, the clip that is used to attach the fan prevents odd shaped fans like the TMD to be used. Just get a new hs.

Hey guys thanks well the first thing is the fan was turned up all the way right now I have it set on the lowest setting and its tolerable now current temp says 39c unloaded. Yeah I think a new HS is the best way to go I am considering the Thernal Right SL7 it's all copper and about 20 bucks no fan any ideas what a good fan to match it would be? So far Panaflow is one anything else to consider in anycase thanks for the advise guys. To see my rig with pics go here:

Sorry...I guess I failed to see that on Thermaltakes site.

The Y.S. Tech fan I linked to in my first post may still be a decent idea. It would allow you to fine tune between performance and noise.

Another adjustable fan that you may want to look into is Thermaltakes Smart Fan 2. I have heard people talking about it lately. It always seemed to me that Thermaltake exagerated their claims of quiet fans though.

I still do not see why simply cannot put the fan speed on medium or low. Low seems very quiet at least at my friends house.

Yeah on low speed the fan noise is fine but the temps climb to 42-45c while playing games like UT2003 I think this may be too high No? On the med setting it's still annoying but does drop the temps to 41c under load

Hate to run off-topic but I was wondering:

Has anyone mounted the speed controller to their case?

Does anyone have a guide for installing it I was wondering cuz I dun wanna futz anything up :D

Also I love my thermaltake 7+ always keep it on high but lately i think it annoys my room mate i think when i get home i am gonna dump it down to low since i am not running seti@home at the moment

1. Keep it but by rheostat controller (or DIY)
2. toss it out, get an SLK-900 with Panaflo 90mm

i had the v7+ and couldn't stand the high pitched whine. i got an ax-7 and 80mm adjustable and eventually a slk-800. both were sooo much easier on the ears.

Did the temps stay similar?
