I would give K7T 266 Pro a positive post if I solve the following problem.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

First of all I would like to apology to you guys maybe my explaination is not so clear, since Engilish is my second language. But I will appreciate it if you can take time to read my post and give me an advise. 🙂

MB: K7T266 Pro
OS: Windows98 SE
CPU: AMD Athlon 1000Ghz OEM
Sound Card : Sound Blaster Live Value OEM
NIC : 3COM 3C905C-TX PCI 10/100 OEM
Video Card : Asus GeForce2 7100 TV-out 32MB Retail

I get latest BIOs,install 4in1 driver (chipset drivers).

1. Sound Blaster Live Value Problem

I disable midi port and onboard AC 97 feature through BIOs.
I even can't finish the driver installation, it crash when the installation almost get finish.
Still IRQ Confict ????????
Afterward I enable the onboard sound card feature and assign it to IRQ 11 (its a available irq) becuase I think althrough I disable the onboad one, it might still occupy the irq 10. The computer seems didnt know how to take that setting. (When i restart, in the black screen with white text of computer information, it says "multimedia IRQ = 10" again ........ still crash after i restart the computer......
I give up ... I decide to use the onboard sound card ..... so I took out sound card and install drivers for other component. The other problem comes out

2. 3COM Network Card Problem

I can install the driver and restart the computer. But when it shows up the 98 screen (took 5 minutes) and get into the other black screen with a flashing crusor ..... it FREEZE there ...... never can get into windows
except I use "safe mode"....
(Important : I plug in my RJ45 line to my DSL)

If I unplug my RJ45 line, I can get into the windows thru normal model.... but the computer act very strange ...
The mouse cursor freeze 5 sec., after 5 sec. I can move it, then freeze again ..... it keep goes on this way ... like a loop ......

The problem is annoying me about 2 weeks ...
This is first time I chose MSI mother board (I've ever built several computer for friends with Asus MB), but in this case I feel depress and dissapoint..
Maybe I should return it and go to OTHER BRAND...???!!!!
I think no more MSI board in future for me anymore ~~~ !!!!!!! :frown:

Any way, thanx for your attention and time to finish my post.

Truly,

KarMa168

By the way, I change both sound card and network card to different PCI slot ...
It doesn't help at all ... 😕

I have my SB Live! card in PCI slot #3 and my NIC (Linksys Etherfast) in PCI slot #2.

If you have some IRQ conflicts, I would suggest downloading a BIOS from MSI Hardware which allows you to manually assign IRQs. I have not had a single problem with this board and I hope your problem will go away cuz it really is an awesome board.
