I was just at a lan party last week, about 18 people there, and there were over 10 MS intellimouse opticals. There was 1 Logitech, the highest end version. I thought they both felt the same movement and smoothness wise. The Logitech may be better ergonamically for some, but not for others, and I pretty much can get used to any mouse I have. MS seems more cheaply built, but they are heavily warrantied, so that wasn't even a thought for me. The 1 difference I really saw between the 2 was that the Logitech would skip around when lifted up to center on the mousepad, while the MS would not. This can be deadly in games, which is what I will use it for. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting the MS in the end. Hope this helps.

Is the ifeel optical mouse that much better than the basic Logitech optical wheelmouse? What does the ifeel feature really do and does it just make the mouse more likely to breakdown?

Happens to all optical mice, just have to learn to lift mouse a little higher when recentering. Its just another part of the learning curve. The sensitivity setting affects this a little. I've tried both brands, both do it:p

The logitech one does feel a bit heavier, gives you that feeling that it's built well i guess. I know one of my friends who's MS one kinda broke but MS sent him a new one within a week.

I love my Logitech Wheel Mouse Opty! I use it on my sUrface 1030, and it's excellent. I haven't been having any of the problems described by many unsatisfied optical mouse users, and the feeling of a freshly cleaned ball is always there.

I would get the Logitech mouse, I´v used both and logitech is years ahead of Microsoft in mice "technology". Though I find it strange that you think the wheel on the explorer is bad, I think its better than the one on logitech mice.

The blue led does kick major ass, I'm thinking of modifying mine and making it a different color just to be weird... but then again maybe not. Anyway, another thing is cost. The Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse (Logitech's equivelant of MS's Explorer) is usually around $50 while MS's Explorer is around $70 normally. Another thing to consider is mousepad, I FULL & WHOLE HEARTEDLY RECOMMEND THE FUNC SURFACE 1030! Just a great surface for opticals, and plus the it's 1/8" thick, so it doesn't get in the way, and for those of us that use our mouse pads in the off kilter fashion (when you turn your mousepad 90 degrees so it's taller than it is wide) it's got 8 spots for it's built-in mouse clip!

Does that Logitech skip at all when you raise it up to move it? The MS didn't when I tried it today as long as it was more then 1/16" or so off the surface, which is np. He didn't have a Logitech I could try tho. I think I'd like the Logitech if it doesn't skip because the MS buttons feel like crap.

All opticals skip if your lazy and don't lift them up enough to recenter...after a while you get used to it though.
