Couple days ago, I installed a new headsink and fan for my processor! After i installed it, and i started my computer, my power supply blew. And now i just got a new power supply today, but my computer still wouldn't boot up. I turn it on, my video card wouldnt' boot up and neither is my dvd rom but everything else is fine. I've tried different video cards but it still wouldn't show up. can anyone help my problem, could it be the motherboard is fried b/c of the power supply incident? or something else, please help i am suffering

Power supplies can take other equipment with them when they die. Have you done the thorough check of problems? Like taking the mobo out and making sure it wasn't shorting on a spare standoff or pulling all your cards but the absolute necessities.

You should take it completely apart and put it back together very carefully and slowly.

Anyway good luck

<< so, the problem is mainly motherboard right? could it also be my cpu or ram? >>

Maybe, maybe not. Did the parts you swapped with work in another box?

that very old story ...

remove everything ... then put just RAM and video card ... try to boot ...

just in this trying thing you'll do every card ... and then know The One :)

ps: maybe you'll need an extra cpu or RAM stick

what heatsink and fan did you install that caused the power supply to blow, and where did you plug the fan in?

<< molex? >>

The type of power connector you use on your drives. The power rating on a delta is way too much for the motherboard fan connector.

well, there's your problem! your motherboard headers can only handle so much wattage. that delta fan sucks way more than any motherboard can dish out. the molex connectors are the power connectors that go into things like your hdd and cd-rom drive. you need to get an adapter to put the 3-pin fan connector onto the 4-pin molex connector. you wont have rpm monitoring, but with those deltas, you'll definitely hear if they ever stop spinning.

you should be able to get the adapter most places - look in the for sale forum, you'll probably find someone selling one there. try an adapter, and if your computer still wont boot, then you probably did damage part of your motherboard. :(

thats not bad. id expect it to be slightly cooler while idle with that swiffy and a delta, but its stiil well within tolerable ranges. as long as you keep that fan plugged into a 4 pin power cable, there's no danger to your motherboard. enjoy your new system!

I don't under your fear. As long as you don't plug the delta into the motherboard, you should be good to go.
