ANY help or input would be greatly appreciated, as I am completely clueless when it comes to computers. A friend suggest this site.

my problem occurs only when I am typing in microsoft word or typing in an email, typing in general. while I am typing, the cursor automatically jumps back to somewhere prior in the text and starts typing there. so my sentences get all jumbled up and it takes 20 minutes to write a paragraph email because I have to keep going back and cleaning stuff up.

Hp suggested that my keyboard assembly has gone bad. I have also been told it may be currupted software. (what I am describing is NOT an "insert" issue)

help please??!

Try running some anti-spyware. Sounds like something is briefly stealing the focus. Ad aware and spybot search and destroy are good.

That's easy enough to test. Plug in another keyboard. The problem could as easily be with your mouse if it's putting out spurious signals. You can test it the same way -- substituting another mouse.

If your system uses a USB keyboard and mouse, you can even "hot plug" either one while the system is running.

If neither of those solves the problem, nickbits is right. You should check for spyware. SuperAntiSpyware is free and effective.

Welcome to AnandTech Forums.

Windows has On Screen Keyboard that can be used to type with Mouse.

Try it if it works OK it is probably the hardware Keyboard, otherwise it is a more systemic system problem.

In Vista it is in: Start/All Programs/Accessories/Ease of Access

In Win XP it is in: Programs/Accessories/Accessibility

I had the same issue on a laptop until i installed the mobo software for the cursor touch pad... also you might want to look in the direction of your mouse and drive through its properties and or make sure the proper driver is installed etc.

Is it a laptop? My mother had the same issue. Turns out that she was touching the touchpad with her wrist and it would move the cursor. SHe had the tendency to tap it with her wrist firmly enough to register as a click.
