Ok here's what I found that could help you. I've followed what was on Microsoft's site. Remember that playing with MBR can cause problems... So, yes there may be a chance of loosing data so backup all your files before doing this.! There?s a warning on Microsoft?s site :
WARNING: This process will repair the bootstrap code and the 55AA signature by rewriting sector zero but will also overwrite the partition table entries with all zeros, rendering your logical drives useless (unless, that is, the 55AA signature is manually entered using a disk editor prior to your performing the FDISK /MBR).
The
unless, that is, the 55AA signature is manually entered using a disk editor prior to your performing the FDISK /MBR
part is telling us that you shouldn?t loose your partitions but then again, it?s a risk?
I'm assuming that you have at least a little knowledge of DOS commands? I?m also assuming that you have a bootdisk, or know how to make one. If not, go to this
thread.
Now let?s start with the programs that you will need :
DiskSave.exe from Microsoft
Partition Table Editor from PowerQuest (The download file is totally at the end of the web page. It's saying:
GUI version:
Download Ptedit32 (Win9x/NT) here
(30 JUN 2000 ) [ 180 kb .zip ]
-Install the rkTools and unzip the Partition Table Editor.
-Now reboot your computer and place your bootdisk in so you can have a DOS Prompt.
-Choose not to support CD-Rom because you don?t need it.
-Go on in the folder where the rkTools are installed and type ?disksave?
-A menu will appear choose the option ?Backup the Master Boot Record? (F2)
-Enter a full path where the file will be saved (Ex.: c:\backupmbr.bin)
-Choose ?Backup the Boot Sector? (F4)
-Enter another full path for this file.
-Now exit this program, and reboot the computer (don?t forget to remove the bootdisk)
-In windows, start the PowerQuest?s Partition Table Editor program.
-Select the partition that is bootable. You?ll know this because when you?ll select
good partition number (the numbers starts from 1 to ? in the left column), the
Boot Record button will be activated.
-Press on that button. You?ll see a lot of values and stuff.
-Go at the last case. The Signature (No. 23). The value there should be AA55. If it?s not that value, then you?ll have to change it. Do this now then press the Write button.
-(This next part I haven?t tried but should be like this) The program will write in the partition table and will probably reboot.
-Put the bootdisk again while rebooting to get in the DOS mode again.
-Type FDISK /MBR when everything is loaded.
-Reboot/remove the floppy drive?
-The error should be gone? Well hope so. If not then I can?t help you more than that!!!
This took me a while to do so hope this will help you!

Tell me the results!
See ya!
P.S. If a problem appeared while doing this, boot in DOS with the bootdisk and start Disksave again. But this time select the Restore Master Boot Record and Restore Boot Sector. Don?t forget to write the full and correct path of the binairies files?
