Whenever my computer resets (with the reset button, or ctrl-alt-del, or win98 reset), it never posts again, and I end up having to power off the system, then power it on again to get it to start up (post) at all. The Diagnostic-Led's (all 4) are all red when it just sits there after resetting. My motherboard is a msi bxmaster.

I'm not having any other problems with the motherboard (it's great), except for the resetting problem. I've checked to make sure it's properly installed. (is there something else installation-wise I shold be looking for?)

I don't think it's a problem with windows, because it happens even when I reset the computer before I start loading windows.

Here's my system, if it helps:

MSI BX-Master (latest bios, at defaults for power mgmnt)
Celeron566 (o/c'd to 898, but I've tried at 566, same prob)
128mb pc100 SDRAM
Antec 300W ATX Power Supply
Enlight 7237 Case
Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 GTS 32mb
CL SB Live! X-Gamer
Adaptec 2930C SCSI Controller
Hauppauge Wintv/PCI
Sohoware NIC 10/100
Maxtor 20gb 7200rpm (on primary built-in promise udma66)
IBM 10GB 7200rpm x2 (on primary ide)
Toshiba SD1202 DVD-ROM (on secondary ide)
All of the components have the latest drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

BTW, this is probably a dumb question, but what is the email address or phone number for MSI's tech support? Thanks for reading.

not sure if this is your problem its might be, but widows has an update on some shutting down issues with win98se, you might want to try updating your windows, and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think it has anything to do with windows, since it happens outside of windows too. (for example, after changing some settings in the bios, it prompts me to save changes and reboot. I do, and it still won't reset properly. Just sits there.)

I've narrowed down my problem. I think what's causing this reset problem is also causing crashes in some games. While my temps aren't exactly low, they aren't terribly high either, so I don't think it's heat, particularly because it happens first thing in the morning, when everything is cool.

After testing all the different variables, I've noticed that some games crash and I have my reset problem only if I'm at 100mhz or higher FSB. I thought it was voltage related at first, but it doesn't seem to be that.

Now, if it's not heat at 100mhz fsb, it must be ram, right? Problem is, I ran my old celeron300a at 464 (103x4.5) forever, and it had zero problems. This crashing problem has followed me from my old bh6 to my new bxmaster. My RAM is corsair PC100 cas2, and was working fine. I did make 2 additions to my system though: my celeron566 and my new geforce2, neither of which I hear anybody else having problems with. So is it the ram? Need input :)

Thanks for reading.

Interesting reading.

Coincidentally,I'm having the exact same problem you are.

Yesterday, I exchanged my Celeron 366@550 for a Celeron II 533. I didn't spend very long at 533 once I got it up and running, so I've been messing around with it at 800 and 896 a lot of the time.

And I know exactly what you're talking about: whenever I reset the computer, or change BIOS settings and restart that way, it never makes it back up. So I have to kill the power supply, then turn everything back on again.

As far as games crashing, I haven't played many yet since I stuck in the new processor. The one game I play the most though (NHL 2000) suddenly won't run. Whereas before it ran without a problem, now it crashes with an "NHL2K has executed an invalid instruction..." error message.

I have no idea what the problem is. I wouldn't think it's the memory, because like you, mine is PC100 that was running fine at 100 MHz FSB with my old processor. Furthermore, I'm sure it's not a heat issue, because the computer will do this even if I just turned it on two minutes ago. I am completely stumped... hoping someone on here has some suggestions. :)

since youve mentioned that youve added two new things to you system, is it possible for you to

a)try a different card besides the geforce?
or
b)try a different processors or step the one you have now
