Please Help Me With My Moral Dilemma

I went to visit my professor today because I did not receive a syllabus in the mail. When I was in his office, he was fumbling around for paper so that he could print me out a syllabus.

So I just got home and realized that on the back of the syllabus were all the questions and answers for the mid term and final for his class. It clearly said Midterm Spring 2003 amd Final Spring 2003. These are the only two tests in the class. The rest of the grades come from homework assignments.

I have not read the questions though because that is my moral dilemma. Should I just destroy this paper or is it ok to read the questions?

Do you think your professor will notice his "Midterm Spring 2003 and Final Spring 2003" questions are missing? And do you think he might put 2+2 together when you ace the two with flying colors? (most) college profs aren't dumb. True, he might never find out, but do you really want to take that risk?

EDIT: I think you should bring the paper back to your prof and explain the situation... that might score you major points w/her or him. That depends on the prof though... is he chill and laid back or more uptight and anal? Would you ever know him on a more personal level, or do you attend a 40,000+ student university?

Peace,
Dezign

If you're caught cheating, some universities will expell you. I don't think I would ever do it in University. In HS, if you're caught cheating on a test, that's 0, on an exam, 0 on the exam, which would bring your mark down severely...

but in university it can be EXPLUSION. I wouldn't risk my future to ace a test.

Yes most likely alter the exams. If I were the prof I would wonder if you made any copies of them and just change them around a bit, but I would be very grateful and feel very stupid.

go make a quick copy and bring it back to him.

He'll probably still rewrite the test, but it would give you a good idea of the types of things he might ask, or his question writing style.

So now, not only are you sexually ambiguous, you are morally ambiguous too!

Maybe, but asking about what to do on an internet forum is just inviting abuse. Especially when it's such an easy target...

Copy them then send it back to him. More than likely he will change the test but you can use to copies to study.

Temptation is part of being human, but if you had to think about it long enough to post here...

You got issues

From a moral standpoint, there was never the slightest question what your proper course of action was.

There's actually no way for him to proove that he cheated. So expulsion or any type punishment is out of the question. Even had it been a setup you could always say you didn't bother to look at the other side since it was scap paper.

Not saying it's the right thing to do, but he can't get in trouble.

I think it's fair to say that there's a fairly large percentage of students who wouldn't think twice about using this for their benefit. It is awfully tempting.

I have to be honest with you here. I'd use that and cheat. You have no chance of being caught if you keep it to yourself and don't "ace" the thing. You might as well study the material to know it anyway, but then go for it baby! When something is THAT easy I'm too weak to say no ;)

And for those who said he should bring it back are you one of the tiny minority of people who really would do that, or are you merely taking the moral highground for fun?

I agree with you that that is regretfully true. Just because everyone jumps off a cliff would not make that the right decision either, would it?
He said, "Please Help Me With My Moral Dilemma," and, as I said, there was no question what the proper moral choice was.

Hey that's good. I never heard that cliff analogy, did you just make that up on the fly?

I honestly would not cheat. I could never handle knowing that I didn't pass the class on my own but cheated. I had lots of opportunities to cheat in HS but I never did. I would rather fail a test than cheat. It is not a moral highground for me. I really have never cheated at sports, games, or tests because I would know that I truly didn't win!
