Hi this is my first post, I have a 12x DVD drive made by Delta. The drive worked decent when i first got it, but after about the first couple days i noticed it making strange noises. I will describe the noises: It starts to spin the cd (not dvd) and then stops reading then starts reading again then stops then it starts reading at full speed and the cd loads.

Every time it did this but i didnt think anything of it. Then i started playing a game and noticed it taking awhile to load between scenes. I took it outand brought it back to the store, but they said i couldnt return it, my month was up. So i plop it back in and say to myself...ill live with slow read speeds till i get some money...but now the drive wont even read the cd AT ALL.

the weird part is is that the light is on and even blinks like its reading the disc AND windows recognizes the drive in device manager. WHY CANT IT READ CDS ANYMORE??

Thank you for any help or tips.

Though it sounds like the drive may be on its last legs, you might try flashing it to the latest firmware revision, which can be found here.

Make sure you first check the current firmware revision of the drive (in Device Mgr.), as there as two different firmware revs available, depending on what your current rev is. Also, as usual, do the flash after booting in to DOS, and be sure to read the ReadMe file that comes with the firmware revision file to get the proper flash command structure.

I would suggest that you get that drive exchanged as it should still be under warranty!

Isn't it normal for stuff from Delta to make noises? :)

I had similar behaviours happen when I tried to read badly scratched CDs. If it doesn't read any CDs.. I suggest you RMA.
