about a week ago, my windows xp suddenly stopped reading my cd roms (both of them). it always appears as there are no CDs in the cd roms when i open My Computer. but when i click on a cd, it shows the files but not the cd name (only says CD Rom or DVD Rom). autoplay stopped working too.

does anybody have an idea why that might have happened? and how to sort it out
i'd appreciate your help

thanx,
nicholas

It sounds like your configuration file in Device Manage may have become corrupted. One possible solution would be to delete the profiles for your drives, reboot, and let Windows find them again. If you have any special drivers or software for the DVD, you may have to re-install it again, but maybe not.

Hope that helps. Good luck. 🙂

i did it twice and nothing changed 🙁 i uninstalled the drivers for both cd roms and when i restarted my computer windows found them automatically but it remained the same as it was.

could it be anything else ?

Did you check for any hardware conflicts, such as IRQ's, etc.? Also, make sure you have the correct jumper settings for Master, Slave, or Cable Select.
