Please help me understand transfer rates...

I'm trying to figure out how long it would take to pass a 30 GB file through a T1 line... I'm assuming a T1 gives 1.5 Mbits/sec transfer rate...

How would I calculate this?

yes. there are 8 bits in a byte to you would divide 1.544 megabits/sec by 8 to get megabytes/sec.

For a better "real world" estimate including overhead and what not divide by 10.

Thanks. Using your numbers as guidelines, I got 432 hours to pass a 30 GB file on a T1 line! This sounds quite slow...
