OK, I am having difficulty understanding the 2GB limitation on folder size that W2K has. Maybe it's b/c I've been up for 20 hours straight and worked my second 18-hour day in a row...either way, I need help.

I'll explain my confusion as best I can, OK?

Is the 2GB limitation:

2GB={FOLDER}--->with NO additional folders inside but just files totalling 2GB

OR

2GB={FOLDER}--->inside can be one or one hundred folders with contents totalling 2GB

I hope I phrased this question correctly. I really need to know as I'm trying to set up my MP3's on my FTP server. By the end of this weekend, I am planning on having around 50 or so CD's ripped to 256kb/s MP3's. :) The average CD, encoded to MP3 at 256kb/s is about 90-100mb. 2GB will come up quickly, you know? Thanks.

I've never heard of such a limit. I think it's only a max of 2GB of files in the root directory, not including subdirectories.
I've had folders with 4+ gigs for a while now.

There is no such limit. I've had folders with 20 gigs in them before. No problem. I think you may be referring to the 2 gig file size limit (I think that's what it is anyways...)

Well, based on the comments of two AT friends that I respect very much, it's obvious that Iamadumbass. WTF am I thinking of then? Where did I pull this 2GB thing from?

I've never heard of such a limit. I think it's only a max of 2GB of files in the root directory, not including subdirectories

So, if my G Drive is my FTP drive and G:/FTP is the root, then it doesn't really matter how much space I have....I.E. I could have 25 folders, 1GB each, inside G:/FTP?

I think you might have meant the 2 gb NTFS that manufacturers preset it to and then the non uber n00b users have to format the whole thing and set it to their liking. I dunno I heard about this 2gb NTFS partition thing or whatnot also. Confused

Edit: BTW I heard that manufacturer thing on AT about a week back and how they were complaining that it was a stupid thing to do

Gee, I'm sorry I wasted everyone's time...I guess I'm hallucinating (no, I don't do drugs...I get pee tested, thanks very much!)...so tired. Thanks for setting me straight.

All I need to do now is buy a 100GB or better HD to hold these damn things...
