Hello ATOT,

I have to write a research paper on some aspect of the Cold War for school and I chose Television and Film Propaganda (as in, Anti-Communist/Pro-American & Capitalist propaganda). I've got lots of neat old '50s propaganda stuff on my computer and I have plenty of articles and books to read over, but I can't seem to come up with a thesis. I'm not sure what there is to say about it so the only questions I've been able to come up with so far are: "was propaganda justified?" and "was propaganda successful?" both of which can be answered very briefly. Thanks everyone,

Ollie

don't you mean:
"It was the best of times it was the... BLURST of times!?!" hilariosity ensues during which Mr. Burns angrily assails monkeys with verbal assaults.

a) good topic IMHO

b) my thesis would be that "the American government, finding itself in a position of unparalelled power following the end of wwii, used its stature inappropriately in deceiving the public about the nature of the Soviet Union, just recently an ally, and about its own aims. While the country faced a new enemy, which the public could legitimately fear, the extent to which the government used its powers clouded its reasonable moral stance."

This is somewhat rough; PM me if you want anything else (or if it's nonsense, don't bother :))

Wow thanks, Novgrod! Hehe I wasn't really expecting someone to write a thesis for me, I thought I could just bounce ideas off anyone with a suggestion for a general topic but what you have there is probably better than anything I could've come up with. Thanks again Novgrod,

Ollie
