My old man's computer is acting really strange...it will random reboot and it also starts up by itself....and sometimes it runs like a champ. Really strange because he has had this rig for a year with no prroblems at all and now all of a sudden the computer is freaking out.. Oh and sometimes when it boots up by itself it goes to the Cmos screen and says the CPU is set up incorrectly?

Here is his setup

1 gig P3 Retail CPU 133 FSB
Asus P3V4x Mobo
256 meg of Crucial RAM
40 gig Maxtor hd 7200 RPM
Geforce 2 Asus video card
Supermicro case W/Sparkle power supply

Here is what I know

1) it can't be heat the heatsink is clean and also the fan is working properly
2) I bypassed the surge protector so I know it can't be a faulty connection their also replaced the power cord with a new one
3) I totally disabled the power management crap in the Bios

Any help would be appreciated

TIA

Put a heatsink on the clock generator....does wonders for stability on the P3V4X. It's the long ICS chip located at the bottom of the last DIMM slot.

The first thing I'd look at is to remove and reattach all the cards, power connections, cables, memory, etc. Over time, heat from using and cool from being off can cause connections to become intermittant. If that doesn't help, then I'd try another strip of memory.

Good luck.................
