Hi, I just received these: Abit IS7, P4 2.4C (malay), GEIL DDR RAM 512MB PC-3200 Value 400MHz Ultra- CAS 2.5, 2T, and Western Digital 80 gig 7200 special edition.

Can someone give me a step by step installation, and which BIOS to install? I am more concerned about stability than speed, btw. I'm getting a bit nervous and hope everything turned out fine.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I would stick with the original bios version. Some newbies have trouble flashing the bios, and end up with a dead board. Best advice is to read the motherboard manual cover to cover. Install the mobo backplate correctly (it should snap in- most newer cases have a removable backplate-same as i/o shield). Also line up all the brass standoffs on the mounting surface with the empty holes in the mobo, and leave no extras making contact with the bottom of the board. This can cause a no post situation.

Thanks. This is not the first time I've built a computer however, I've never, ever built an Intel system before!. heh So I converted to the dark side...:D

What I need is the bios setup from other users to get the best performance/stability. Also, I know for VIA , after windows installed, you need to install drivers in certain order; what about Intel?

Thanks

Ok, I got my system up and running, and I just did a 3DMark 2001SE and I got a score of over 12000! That's a good thing, right? :)

Now, my question is, how do I overclock this thing?

P4 2.4C
2*512mb Geil Value 3200
GF4 Ti4600
WD 80gb Special Edition
TB Sata Cruz (I love this card!)

Ok, so through trial and error and couple of no boot, I managed to overclock it to 3.1GHz. The 3DMark 2001 score at that speed is 13786. I think that is kind of low isn't it? I read people getting 20000 or so with their system. Perhaps it's time for a radeon 9800? ;)

Anyway, my first Intel system and I am very happy with it. Oh, and it's soooo quiet....

Oh well, so much for "I'm more concerned with stability than speed, btw."

Well, I didn't know it was going to be so much fun and easy and... ;)

Anyway, it's back to default 2.4 because at 3.1, the onboard sound stopped working.
