Sorry if the answer to this seems obvious. I have never used on board audio before.
I have a M-Audio pci soundcard installed in an Asrock Z87 Extreme6 mb. The coaxial s/pdif connection on the card goes out to a standalone DAC which outputs analog to my preamp. All PC sources currently run through this digital connection, which I will want to keep for Musicbee, Google Play Music, Potplayer, etc.
On the other hand I'm thinking of getting a monitor with built in sound, specifically so I can listen to YouTube videos and embedded videos on web pages through the monitor.
The sole HDMI output of the mb is connected to a plasma tv with sound disabled. I would like to keep this connection as it is. I use it frequently to watch HD video via Potplayer and Amazon video in the browser.
I have an unused displayport output that I suppose I would connect to the new monitor. No idea if this connection should be carrying the mb audio as well. Of course the analog audio outputs of the mb are currently unused.
I assume that I re-enable the mb audio in the bios. I'm guessing that when I want web-based audio to go through the monitor that I switch the source from the sound icon in the task bar. Would this help? https://github.com/sgiurgiu/DefaultAudioChanger/downloads
I would appreciate someone walking me through the steps for this. Thanks!
