hmmm hard to say since I've never listened to any of them. What's your budget? How big is your room?

Hi BurnItDwn. I am leaning towards a 5.1 setup because i will be watching movies and playing games for most of the time on my PC. so, a physical 5.1 setup would be best wouldn't you say?

also, yeah i have come across great reviews for the 540, but where i stay, it is a 20$ upgrade over most of the speakers that i have mentioned in my previous post.

With that kind of budget, I'd go with a pair of nicer headphones or 2.1 speakers (in that order of preference).

If you really want to punish yourself, you might try to find some used logitech x540s within your budget and see how that sounds.

Creative Labs speakers are not good. Go for Klipsch. Logitech does not care for sound quality. I suggest the following surround sound speakers package, but you need an amplifier or an AV receiver.

Klipsch HD Theater 300

For $80 will only get a crappy 2.1 setup. About $100 per channel is better. For games, all you need is a 2.1 setup. Music is best with just two channels. You get by with a 2.1 for movies. The following 2.1 is good.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

FYI, the dollar sign is before not after the price.

For an 80 dollar budget in a small room I would recommend buying headphones.

Audio Technica ATH-AD700's can be had for $80.

as mentioned, with an $80 budget you're extremely limited. unless you really don't care too much about sound quality, you'll walk away disappointed with a 5.1 setup at that price. i would also very much recommend headphones at that price. i have the ad700's, they're quite a nice set but depending on your expectations might not have the low-end that you'd be looking for in movies. however, the detail and positional audio is superb on these; they provide a better listening experience than my z-5500. granted they obviously don't have the same bass impact, the low-end is much tighter and cleaner; the z-5500 sub sounds like a fart cannon. i honestly feel that the ad700 provides a better listening experience for music, games, and thirdly movies when compared to the z-5500. incidentally, the z-5500 is pretty much at the top of the pc speaker heap and would be beyond the options that you're looking at for $80. however, some people are totally satisfied with something like the x-540. i think it really just depends on whether or not you want to expose yourself to higher end sound, because until you hear it you don't realize how bad the cheaper stuff really is. the caveat, of course, comes either to your wallet (speakers), or to the necessity of having to actually wear headphones and not letting anyone else in the room enjoy the sound (headphones).

but if you must have speakers, check craigslist. i got my z-5500 for $160 there, been rockin them for about 2 years. great place to get a deal on used audio gear.

EDIT: Probably the best advantage to headphones, in your situation, is that they're very easy to ship. So even if you can't return them for some reason, you can still turn around and resell them and not lose much money on shipping.

Thank you for all your input guys. i really appreciate it. i have decided to go for a Logitech X540. i know this decision will dissapoint a lot of you but as i have not heard the good speakers out there, the Logitech sounds just fine to me. (The Logitech sounds pretty good to me and if you'll are rejecting it, i don't know what i am missing in the sound department!). I love movies and i have never owned a 5.1 setup! So i have decided to go for the 5.1 setup. Thanks for all your advice. I will come back to you when and if i buy a good home theater at all.

P.S. : @electroju thanks for the tip
