ok...
1. gf4 ti4600 or 8500dv
2. main thing is what will look the best when i do video out to my tv when watching dvds. i ready one review on gf4 and said res was 800x600 and it looked really bad. but i dont think that review tried watching a dvd.
3. i'd like vivo

im not a serious 3d gamer... but i like to have the best stuff. i really really need a vid card... im using my onboard one right now. thanks for the help!

O... and can you tell me which gf4 card if that's what you recommend.

If your not a serious gamer as you stated then I'd definitely go with the AIW R85000, the performance advantage of the Ti4600 isnt going to yield you much in your case.... but ATi's long been the industry leader in multimedia capabilities such as your looking at.

Rand is right, but if you've waited this long, I'd wait for the Parhelia. (and compare it to ATI)

I dont think i would wait. The 8500dv sounds perfect for you, and if you wait, there will always be something more prominent on the horizon. Just go for it!!

If I were you I would wait until this fall when there will be new cards (hopefully) from ATI and Nvidia and there will also be the Matrox card.

If you wait you could try the newer cards for more $$$ and hopefully betterr features or get the older ones for less money.

I would go for the ATI card. I have the aiw 7500 and like it very much. Though some of the upcomming games might be a little tough on it. I didn't think I would be gamming at all but after geting the card I realised how good newer games look and have started to game some.

I have heard that some dual amd boards might need a bios update to use ati cards though.

If you're not a serious gamer then you don't need a GF4 Ti4600 or a Parhelia. A Radeon 8500 and GF3 Ti200 are both still quite good cards and they don't break your wallet.

I recommend the Gainward ti4600. I tried the Visiontek and its an excellent card but the gainward beats it in capture quality IMO. I haven't tested tv out yet.

Dude, what are you smokin'? He said he's not a gamer! If you want excellent video quality, got with either Geforce 4 Ti4200 with vivo or ATI Radeon 8500 All in Wonder. The both of them will have about the same video out, it's a limitation of the TV, not the cards. TV's can't really do 640x480 and look clear, never mind 800x600. If you plan on doing alot of video editing with inputting and outputting video, get the ATI 8500 dv. If doing minimal Video in/out, go with the Geforce 4200 w/ vivo or ATI 8500 AIW.

Bottom line, they are both about the same in quality for video. Games are a different story though, as the nvidia card will be faster by about 10-20% on most scores and is more future proof, game wise.

A Gainward GF4 Ti4600 is at minimum $380-400 bucks! And it's meant as a gamers card! :Q

IF you're gonna spend that much money and not play games, get the ATI Radeon DV instead! That can be had for as little as $230. Please don't give false or skewed info! :|
