Please help me pick out the correct RAM.

The PC133 RAM modules will probably work but it will operate at the fastest speed at which your motherboard will support. In your case, (w/ the Dell laptop) the fastest speed is PC100. So why bother using the faster RAM? Save yourself some money and choose among the Crucial offerings.

I've been looking to buy a used chip from the forum here and it seems most chips are PC133 so-dimms...... that's really the only reason why I asked about it.

Well in that case, as long as the used RAM is cheaper than what Crucial is offering - then it might a good option.

However, a couple of things to consider:

1) How long do you plan on keeping laptop? If you want to use this for a long time, I'd suggest going w/ the Crucial memory as they have a lifetime warranty on all their memory.

2) Proprietary systems like Dell will only work with certain types (brand) of RAM. If you decided to purchase from the Forum member here, make absolutely sure it's compatible with your laptop.

I don't know what your budget is, but if the difference in price isn't that great, I'd just go for the Crucial RAM. I've bought from them before, I know their quality is good.

pc133 would not work(unless it was a 133/100 module), you'd need to get pc100. and i've never seen a dell that uses proprietary ram.

Perhaps you're right.

There is no such thing as a 133/100 module. It's either one or the other. If the memory module is PC133 - it's assumed that it's compatible with PC100 RAM.
