Hello, my name is Andy. Im new here.
I have a question regarding prime 95. I have downloaded prime 95 two days ago. I answered the questions the program asked...ex:how many hours do you use your computer, etc. After that the program ran something i believe it was a test; it said it would only take 1hr. i belive it got to step 13 in the test in 40 min. I turned my computer off when it got to test13.

What have i done to my computer? Have i over clocked it? have i changed any setings?

Also, i have read about overclocking and prime 95 and what it does. But I would appreciate if you could simplify what this is all about. What is the point of all of this.(No offense, but i can not grassp the reason of this program and overclocking) THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Unless you've changed BIOS or other hardware settings, you haven't overclocked at all. P95 is simply a program that maxes the CPU and RAM (depending on what test you run), and it used by many of us to test the stability of systems we are overclocking.

You didn't hurt the computer in any way by running P95, nor does it mean you overclocked your system.

Give this a read and welcome to AT!

Prime95 is a program that stresses the CPU (and RAM as well).

There are many programs that put stress on the CPU.
But, Prime95 has become sort of a standard for checking the stability of a CPU.

If the program can run on your computer for a long time (overnight recommended) without stopping due to an error, you know that under normal use, your CPU will never crash.

Just running Prime95 will not overclock anything. But, those who overclock, use this program to make sure that their PC is stable. If not, they reduce the overclock until they find the overclock level that is still stable.
