Hey this is my 1st build and it has been running great for the last two months or so, but then last night I wanted to play Vice City so I loaded it up and played it for about 5 min and then the screen went bezerk on me (flashed an aray of colors) so I flipped the power switch and turned it back on. It boot to bios but then before showing the Windows XP screen it gave me the same screen, colors all jumbled everywhere. Now my computer wont even post. It turns on but no picture on the monitor. I have taken everything out to try and see what was wrong but I couldnt find the problem. I thought the mobo might be grounding out so I took it out of the case, that didnt solve the problem. Please help me out and get this thing back up and running. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, my system specs are in my sig.

Thanks again,
Spencer

Sounds like video card. Does your card have a fan on it? Boot up and see if it spins. The fan might have died, which caused your video card to overheat, which might have killed it.

Yea my 9700 Pro has a fan on it. And yes when I boot up the fan does spin. I will test out with a different video card and see if that fixes the problem.

UPDATE: I tried another video card and still the same problem. I took my 9700 Pro and tested it in another system and it works flawlessly. I dont know whats wrong. I think it might be my bios. My bios might be screwed. How would I go about fixing the bios?

Try clearing the CMOS before you jump to thinking the BIOS is dead. Also check that the CPU fan spins ect ect. Try to boot w/o a hardrive and just do the bare essentials.

With vid+ram+CPU and if it doesn't boot, then one of them is probably dead. What PSU do u have?

Since the boot was funky as was the colors on the screen, it may be the board (which has the ATA interface to the board and the AGP interface to the vid card). But yea, it's gonna need some testing and maybe swapping components with buddies.

I have cleared the CMOS but that doesn't work. I am pretty sure its the mobo, although it could be the PSU. It is a generic Duro 400W PSU, but it has powered the system just fine before, and it still powers the system just fine, I can hear all the components working fine (such as HDs,CD-Roms) so I dont think the PSU is the problem. I am pretty sure it is my NF7-S v2 mobo. I bought this mobo off of the FS/FT forums off dew042. I have contacted him to see if he could provide the original sales reciept. In the meantime, I am going to start the RMA process with ABIT. Does anyone know how good the RMA process is with ABIT? Thanks.
