I usually turn off my computer when I go to bed, and it stays off until I come home from work the next day. Last night I kept it on all night because I was burning some stuff. Today, I was surfing the net and bam! it just shut down on me, it appeared to reboot - the power was still on, fans were spinning but nothing was on the screen.
After turning it on and off several times without any success I began disassembling the thing. First I removed every single card except the video card. Then I took 1/2 of my RAM sticks out, swapped them, changed slots, etc. I also disconnected CD-ROMS, hard drives, floppy. Still no success. I am stumped as to why my computer does not work. Can anybody please help me?
My specs:
AMD XP 1600+ (never overclocked)
2x256MB Kingston PC2100 RAM
Western Digital 120GB 8 meg HDD
Internal ZIP 250
Floppy
Lite-on 16x DVD
Sony DRU500a DVD burner
Visontek GTS-V video card
Generic TI Chipset IEEE 1394 card
ECS K7S5A Pro Motherboard
I bought the motherboard new at Fry's about 3 weeks ago to replace another motherboard that died on me. It seems strange that I would have two motherboards go bad back-to-back so close to each other. But the motherboard is the only problem I can think of, unless the video card is somehow screwed up.
When I push the power button, I hear the hard drive powering up, the fans start spinning and everything seems fine, but nothing comes up on the screen. Please help me, I have a lot of junk saved on there that I have not backed up yet!!!
