Please help me interpret this CARFAX

Guys,

I am considering buying a car and got a CARFAX on it. The CARFAX is clean ... but unusual. The car is a 1993 and cars this old average between 70-80 records. This car has a total of only six (6). My concern (from below) is the gap from 1993 till 2006 when nothing was noted. It's like the owner drove the car unregistered a total of 12 years (26,000 miles). Here it is:

What do you read from this?

A CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX. CARFAX checked over 5 billion vehicle history events and found 6 record(s) for this car.

I'm always wary of state changes, but others feel very comfortable with it. It may very well have been kept mostly in storage (i.e. the 2000 miles/year, drove it locally to the grocery store)?

But doesn't a car have to be re-registered each year? perhaps not in South Carolina ...

Does carfax show every year registered or new registrations (changes of ownership) only?

I'm not sure. That's why I was asking. When I printed the report the email stated that cars of this age usually average between 60 to 75 records (based upon their age). This car has only six (6). Everything I see here matches up with what the seller told me except I cannot explain the lack of activity between 1993 and 2006.

I don't know if this is of any help to you but I just did a CarFax on a 2004 F150 located in MA for my kid up there and it showed the tag renewal every year along with the safety inspections and emissions inspection. It also declared the vehicle to be one owner.

I would question the gap in your report from 1993 to 2006. Sounds fishy to me unless the owner didn't drive during those years for some reason.

I've had my '03 Accord for 3 years. The only thing Carfax shows is

1) Original new title issue date followed by "title issued or updated" when I bought it.
2) two dealer visits for maintenance (but not when I had the dealer change the brakes)
3) "title issued or updated" when I got another copy of the title (got lost in mail)

It shows only one owner but I'm actually the 2nd owner. Your carfax looks like there's been only two owners, that's all.

dud, thats typical for a FL car (I used to live there). Because there are no inspections nothing is recorded year to year as long as the title stays with the same owner.

QFT...bought my 98 from the second owner a couple years ago in florida.

Only 2 car fax entries were listed, the original owner and the change of title to the second owner.
