Ok, heres the deal. My own *sister* has numerous cats, dogs, a rabbit and several other animals at their house. These animals are being neglected on a daily basis, they are most of the time sick, with sore eyes. Some of them are getting really skinny and malnourished.

Now...she also has another house 28 miles away. This house has a garage next to it. My sister and her boyfriend has 13 cats locked up in the garage. These cats all range in age. She goes to this place approx one time every week to a week and a half to feed them. Just a little fyi, these cats has been in this garage for 6 months now, maybe a little longer.

I am seriously considering calling some type of animal protection agency to come and take them. But am having a hard time finding the proper place to do so.

What would you do in this situation ?

if i had a sister, and she was doing that, i'd probably call her a stupid bitch and go jack bauer on them and rescue all the animals myself. go to the house and get them.

My zip code is 26726.

Now I have considered what you recommend, But I just simply cannot support that many animals on my own. I would prefer animal protection to come in on this. My sister isnt the easiest person to get along with. She's the type that thinks she is always right and can do no wrong. And the type that would try to cause trouble for my family. I would prefer to keep this on the low so she doesn't know who contacted the agency.

Now according to my zip code above, can someone help me locate a agency that would help ? I know if I can get a hold of the right place, they would be very interested to help.

what about: The Mineral County Humane Society, Inc.

?

honestly, i'd rather see these animals put to sleep peacefully than have them locked up like that in a garage.

Thanks, not sure how you two found those places. But I couldn't. Thanks a lot. Time to get the ball rolling.

Does she have some kind of mental issues? Why does she have so many animals?

I agree with 40Hands she might have some type of mental issue to go "collecting" all these animals. I was watching Animal Cops and a guy had 245 cats and sadly none of them could be saved since they were all wild and majority of them were sick.

JPB you're doing the right thing by calling the humane society and if she gives you shit you know she's in the wrong. If she had 5 cats and took care of them that's a completely different story.

Well like I said, she has over 30 pets total I believe.

Honestly I am not sure if she has any mental issues. She very well could have. I know back in the day she was a big animal lover...but she has changed over the years.

She thinks everyone in the world is out to get her, and owe her everything. She can do no wrong, and everyone else can do no right. So its time for someone to get involved.

I myself have a cat and two parakeets. And no harm will ever come to them. :)

As to why she has so many. I cannot answer that. Even a few days ago, she said she wanted to buy some fish. She just keeps getting these animals for no reason.

Oh, I should also mention, in her back yard, she has about a one year old Rottweiler. And it is MEAN.

Definitely good of you to report it. Your sister sounds like an idiot. The only thing you did wrong was wait this long, IMO. Hopefully they can find a good home, though thinking they all will is kind of naive.

Yea, you are right paulxcook. I did wait too long. I have considered this before but figured she would turn against me if she found out. But I got to the point where I do not care anymore. If she does, she does. Oh well.

These animals need help asap.

I don't understand why someone would want 13 cats locked in a garage 28 miles away.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to turn in family like this to the authorities, but I really think it has to be done. Even if it's a bit "late", at least you're doing it.

Good luck.

Well, she has so many animals at her house now, that she don't have enough room there, So she locked them up in the garage at her other place. I have contacted the Humane Society. Will update when they tell me what they are going to do :)

SPCA. Hopefully they can act on an anonymous report so she won't find out it was you.

Some people in this situation actually think that because they are giving a home to these animals they have a better life than being dead. She probably "rescued" a bunch of those animals from a humane society herself.

op ask your sister if she would like to be locked in a closet for a week or two.

I think you should call SPCA or Animal rescue or something.

Those animals might have disease or even parasites.

There's a difference between loving animals and having a mental disorder.
My sister loves animals too, but she has a single small dog, that's it. The thing is, she's also smart enough to know that properly caring for an animal, at least so far as pampering it to our standards:), takes a considerable amount of time and money.

The amusing part is that it seems that you care more for the animals than she, the "animal lover," does.

My family took in a cat from the father of one of my sister's friends - it was a divorced family, the dad was quite apparently a deadbeat. But he also had a cat, and kept it locked in the bathroom. Its litterbox was cleaned maybe once a month, maybe every other month, and it had hyperthyroidism. We rescued her from there; she seemed quite thrilled to be out. She got two baths to clean out the stink, and because her fur was all matted. She didn't seem to even care about the water, and purred the entire time. We weren't able to afford treatment for the thyroid problem, but it was never a hindrance of her activity or energy, and she always seemed to be in exceedingly good spirits. She died about 2 years after we adopted her, sleeping in a sunbeam on her favorite rug.

But to take a cat from one cage, to what is effectively little more than another one, is really not rescue at all.
