I bought a dimension 2400 with a p4 2.2 ghz. I was pissed when I found that it didn't have an AGP slot (my fault for being an idiot and not reading more about it)

I put in a 9200 SE early this year because it was one of the few PCI cards I could find.

I just had to change out the mobo. My old one stopped working and dell sent me a new one no questions asked.

My project:
I want to install my parts(HD, CPU, RAM, CD) into a new motherboard with an AGP slot. Then i'll get a new video card.

If I entirely change out motherboards for a different kind, will my copy of XP work? Ive heard horror stories...

What type of MB do I need? I'm not sure what socket type my CPU is.

Any recommendations for MBs would be great. I don't need a high end.

Will I need a new case? Any recommendations? Not looking to spend a lot here.

And i'm looking for a video card around 250$ or less.

Thanks in advance.

You will at least need a new power supply. Dell motherboards/power supplies have different pin configurations than normal, and you will fry one or the other if you dont change both. Then, it depends on the case, you might not be able to fit a new normal power supply into your dell case. Check the screw locations and size before you buy. It maybe a lot easier to just get a new case and be done with it. I've used some gateway cases that I had to take a dremel to, to even get a normal motherboard installed.

Your XP will have to be reactivated, but it shouldn't give you too much trouble since its your first upgrade.

i think the horror story he is refering to is that copies of windows purchased through large OEMs often only work on that large OEM's computers.

if i can find the copy of xp home that came with my 600m i'll see if it'll work on a home built
