Hello,

So I use this PC as a HTPC. Just got a new TV down here. On my old TV it had Coaxial audio out. So I just used HDMI from my PC to my TV (muted my TV) and just passed the audio via Coax to my stereo receiver. I liked this because I could control my volume with one remote by adjusting the volume on my PC.

Now I got a new TV and it only has optical audio out. So I have HDMI going from my PC to my TV and my motherboard has optical audio out. So I just have that toslink going directly from my PC to my receiver. Now the issue with optical is I can't control the volume of everything via the PC i have to do some controlling on the receiver. Like in the windows environment I can control the volume via my PC. In 7MC when watching TV I have to control the volume via the receiver. Also my movies in 7MC some I can control using PC, some I have to use receiver. I want to just go back to coax where everything just worked, but don't know how.

This is the motherboard I have. It doesn't have Coax audio out on any of those jacks does it? If not can I plug all those multicolored ones into some sort of converter that will output to a single Coax connection?

The reason that you could control the volume in some programs but not others is that some programs are bitstreaming compressed Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. and others are sending normal uncompressed PCM audio. Your computer can't touch the compressed data, and that includes changing the volume level.
