I know this has been done to death but I need help finishing it. I have been collecting odds and ends and now I have my tax check I can finish it all at once. It will be a general use home computer but I also play some games so I want the video to be as good as possible. I hook up via DSL so I need a NIC or onboard LAN. I won't say money's no object but I can pretty much spend what I want. Here's what I got so far:

Enlight Case and power supply, 1 case fan
Retail box AMD 1600XP
Adaptec SCSI Card 19160
Seagate Cheetah ST318404LW SCSI hard drive
Yamaha 2100S SCSI CDRW
Pioneer 304S SCSI DVD
IBM P96 monitor

Obviously I need a mobo(266a), video card, RAM, NIC and sound card. I'll get the ram at crucial based on mobo. I was thinking of the Soyo Dragon Plus for the mobo because of the onboard lan and sound. Would I be better off with something else with a seperate NIC and sound card? How about video cards? All your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Unless onboard sound is really that bad and you need a better solution, I'd go with that motherboard. The integrated LAN is really nice, IMO. The nice thing about the sound is that at a later date, if you don't like it, you can just diable that sound and toss in a Turtle Beach or an Audigy, or whatever.

As for video cards, I'd hold out a bit for one of the geforce4's (not the MX strain, either). If you can't wait, then I'd just get a good geforce3 ti 200 and overclock.

Nice rig, btw. :D
